Creating a More Inclusive Community

Greater Des Moines Partnership • Nov 15, 2021

November Partnership Perk – Inclusion

As one of the nation's fastest growing centers for business, Greater Des Moines (DSM) understands, values and embraces the importance of maintaining a vibrant and diverse workplace.

Greater Des Moines Partnership acts as a catalyst to mobilize the business community toward a broad economic development vision that incorporates all people as valued contributors and valuable customers. Greater Des Moines Partnership offers a variety of programs to help you attract and retain diverse talent in your organizations, including:

Inclusion Forum

The 9th Annual Inclusion Summit will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at the FFA Enrichment Center at the Des Moines Area Community College Ankeny Campus with the option to join virtually. The event's theme is "Equity in Action," and attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about what equity means and discover tools and resources to build equity-centered practices, systems and organizations. The Forum will be available in a hybrid format. To register in person, click here. To register to attend virtually, click here.

Inclusion Guide

The Guide aims to provide leaders and employees with an overview of initiatives and tools needed to implement diversity and inclusion programs in their organization and in order to leverage untapped talent. The Guide includes links to comprehensive information on a number of relevant topics. The Guide is intended to help organizations get started and/or continue on their inclusion efforts. It can be found here.

Inclusion Webinars

In an effort to share inclusion best practices in the community, The Partnership's Inclusion Council offers a Webinar Educational Series. You can access past webinars and resources here.

INclusion Magazine

Reflecting the value and importance of diversity in DSM, INclusion celebrates the rich cultural traditions of the region's multicultural communities including but not limited to, African-Americans, Asian American, communities of European descent, Latinx and Native American residents. The magazine also includes sections about Des Moines' diverse faith community, accessibility for people with disabilities, opportunities for those in the military, veterans, young and retired professionals and the region's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and Queer communities.

INclusion is a joint effort between The Partnership, Business Publications Corporation and dsm Magazine, along with several corporate sponsors. The seventh and most recent edition was published earlier this year. You can view the 2020 edition here. If you want hard copies of the publication, please contact The Partnership. The Partnership and area employers use INclusion to help attract and retain a diverse pool of talent to the local community.
